Ingredients
For the dough:
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
For the filling:
- 1 1/2 cups peeled and chopped fresh or canned peaches (drained if canned)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons butter (softened)
For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk or cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Add the sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Stir in the flour gradually until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Filling: While the dough rises, prepare the filling. In a small saucepan, combine the chopped peaches, brown sugar, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat for 5–7 minutes until thickened, then cool completely.
- Assembly: After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a 10×14-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface. Spread with softened butter, then evenly spread the cooled peach filling over the dough. Roll up tightly from the long side and cut into 9 even rolls. Place rolls in a greased 9×9-inch baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes.
- Baking: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown. While they bake, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute the fresh peaches with frozen or canned, just be sure to drain well.
- Add a pinch of nutmeg or a splash of almond extract to the filling for extra flavor.
- These rolls are best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
