Description

Peach Lemonade is the ultimate refreshing summer drink that combines the natural sweetness of ripe peaches with the tartness of freshly squeezed lemon juice. This homemade beverage is easy to prepare, featuring a homemade peach syrup simmered on the stovetop, then mixed with lemon juice and cold water to create a perfectly balanced, thirst-quenching treat. Garnished with fresh fruit slices and mint, it’s ideal for hot days and gatherings.

Ingredients

Peach Syrup

  • 6 ripe peaches, pitted and roughly chopped
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, plus more to taste
  • 1 cup water

Lemonade

  • 1 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 8-10 lemons)
  • 6 cups cold water, plus more to adjust to taste
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)
  • Peach slices, for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh mint sprigs, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine peaches, sugar, and water: In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped peaches, 1 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 cup of water. This mixture will form the base of the peach syrup.
  2. Bring to a simmer: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally to help the sugar dissolve and prevent the mixture from sticking to the pan.
  3. Simmer and mash: Reduce heat to low and continue simmering for 10-15 minutes, until the peaches are very soft and have released their juices. Use a potato masher or the back of a spoon to gently mash the peaches and extract more flavor.
  4. Strain the syrup: Pour the peach mixture through a fine-mesh sieve set over a heatproof bowl. Press on the solids with the back of a spoon to extract as much syrup as possible. Discard or save the pulp for other uses.
  5. Cool the syrup: Let the peach syrup cool completely. To speed this up, place the bowl in an ice bath.
  6. Combine lemon juice and water: In a large pitcher, mix the freshly squeezed lemon juice with 6 cups of cold water, stirring well.
  7. Add the peach syrup: Pour the cooled peach syrup into the pitcher with the lemon mixture and stir thoroughly to combine.
  8. Taste and adjust: Taste your lemonade and adjust sweetness or tartness as needed by adding more sugar, lemon juice, or water to your liking.
  9. Chill the lemonade: Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and chill the drink.
  10. Fill glasses with ice: Fill glasses about three-quarters full with ice cubes to keep the drink cold and refreshing.
  11. Pour the lemonade: Pour the chilled peach lemonade over the ice-filled glasses.
  12. Garnish (optional): Add lemon slices, peach slices, and fresh mint sprigs for a decorative and flavorful touch.
  13. Serve immediately: Serve your refreshing peach lemonade right away and enjoy its bright, summery flavors.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use ripe peaches that are fragrant and soft but not mushy.
  • The peach pulp can be saved and added to oatmeal, yogurt, or smoothies to reduce waste.
  • Adjust the sugar gradually to suit your taste preferences, especially if your peaches are very sweet or tart.
  • Chilling the lemonade for longer than 30 minutes will deepen the flavors and make the drink even more refreshing.
  • Use fresh lemon juice for brightness; bottled lemon juice will alter the fresh flavor.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled or halved depending on your crowd size.
