Description

This Peach Dump Cake is a delightful and easy-to-make dessert featuring canned peach slices in a sweet syrupy base, topped with a buttery yellow cake mix that bakes into a golden, crispy crust. Perfect served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it’s a crowd-pleaser for any occasion requiring minimal prep but maximum flavor.

Ingredients

Fruit Layer

  • 1 (29 oz / 823 g) can peach slices in heavy syrup, undrained
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Topping

  • 1 (15.25 oz / 425 g) box yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup (156 g) unsalted butter, melted

For Serving

  • Vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) or 160°C if using a fan oven. Lightly grease a 9×13-inch (approx 22×33 cm) baking dish to prevent sticking, and set it aside.
  2. Mix peaches and spices: Pour the entire can of peach slices, including the heavy syrup, into the prepared baking dish. Add vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Stir well to combine and spread evenly across the bottom of the dish.
  3. Add cake mix topping: Sprinkle the yellow cake mix evenly over the peach mixture, covering all the fruit completely for a uniform topping.
  4. Drizzle melted butter: Pour the melted unsalted butter evenly over the dry cake mix, ensuring it covers as much of the surface as possible to create a golden, crispy crust when baked.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling bubbles around the edges.
  6. Cool slightly and serve: Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 30 minutes to set slightly before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for added indulgence.

Notes

  • Use canned peaches with heavy syrup for best sweetness and flavor.
  • You can substitute yellow cake mix with white or spice cake mix for a different flavor profile.
  • Letting the dessert cool slightly ensures cleaner slices and prevents burning your mouth.
  • For a lower-fat version, use light butter or margarine instead of unsalted butter.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and gently reheated before serving.
