Description
This Panda Express Chow Mein Recipe delivers takeout-style stir-fried noodles with caramelized onions, crisp cabbage, and celery tossed in a savory soy-based sauce.
Ingredients
- 14 oz chow mein noodles (or yakisoba noodles or spaghetti)
- 1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 celery stalks, sliced diagonally
- 2 cups shredded green cabbage
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Slice onion and celery, shred cabbage, mince garlic, and measure out all sauces before cooking.
- Cook noodles according to package instructions, drain, and rinse under cold water. Toss lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
- Heat oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat. Add onion, celery, and garlic, stir-fry for 2 minutes until slightly softened.
- Add shredded cabbage and cook for another minute, stirring constantly to retain some crispness.
- Add cooked noodles along with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and black pepper. Toss to combine, letting noodles caramelize slightly.
- Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Remove from heat and serve hot.
Notes
- Add cooked shrimp, chicken, or tofu for a protein boost.
- For gluten-free: use tamari and gluten-free noodles and oyster sauce.
- Store leftovers in the fridge up to 3 days or freeze up to 1 month.
- Top with green onions, sesame seeds, or chili oil for extra flair.
