Description

A delightful and refreshing Orange Jello Cake that combines the lightness of a classic cake with the tangy sweetness of orange gelatin, topped with a fluffy whipped topping and optional citrus garnishes. Perfect for summer gatherings or a sweet treat any time of the year.

Ingredients

Cake:

  • 1 box white or yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on box)

Orange Gelatin Mixture:

  • 1 (3 oz) box orange gelatin (Jell-O)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Topping:

  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (like Cool Whip)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest (optional)
  • Orange slices or sprinkles for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Bake the Cake: Follow the instructions on the cake mix box to prepare and bake the cake in a 9×13-inch pan. Allow the cake to cool for 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Orange Gelatin Mixture: Dissolve the orange gelatin in 1 cup of boiling water, then stir in 1/2 cup of cold water.
  3. Infuse the Cake: Using a fork or skewer, poke holes all over the cake. Slowly pour the orange gelatin mixture over the cake, ensuring it seeps into the holes.
  4. Chill the Cake: Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours until fully set.
  5. Add the Topping: Spread the whipped topping over the cake evenly.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Optionally, garnish the cake with orange zest, slices, or sprinkles before serving. Keep refrigerated until ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • For an extra burst of citrus, use orange juice instead of cold water in the gelatin mixture.
  • This cake can be prepared a day in advance, making it an ideal make-ahead dessert for gatherings.
