Description
This Orange Fig Jam recipe combines the bright citrus flavors of orange with the sweet elegance of dried figs, creating a versatile and delicious spread that is perfect for pairing with a variety of dishes.
Ingredients
Dried Fig Mixture:
- 2 cups dried figs, stems removed and chopped
- 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Optional:
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the chopped figs, orange juice, orange zest, sugar, lemon juice, and salt. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce heat to low and cook for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the figs are soft and the mixture has thickened slightly.
- Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes. Use an immersion blender (or transfer to a food processor or blender) to blend the jam to your desired texture—smooth or slightly chunky.
- Stir in vanilla extract if using. Let cool completely, then transfer to clean jars. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
- This jam pairs beautifully with cheese boards, toast, yogurt, or roasted meats.
- For longer storage, process in a water bath canner for 10 minutes.
- Add a cinnamon stick while simmering for a warm spice note.
