Description

This One Pot French Onion Pasta is a delicious and comforting dish that combines the rich flavors of caramelized onions with creamy cheeses and pasta in a single pot for easy cleanup.

Ingredients

Base:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 large yellow onions (thinly sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Additional Ingredients:

  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz uncooked pasta (e.g., fettuccine or linguine)
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded gruyère cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • fresh thyme or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base: Heat olive oil and butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook slowly for 20–25 minutes until caramelized.
  2. Add Flavors: Stir in garlic, balsamic vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce for 2 minutes.
  3. Cook Pasta: Add uncooked pasta and beef broth. Boil, then simmer for 10–12 minutes until pasta is tender.
  4. Finish: Stir in heavy cream, gruyère, and Parmesan until melted and creamy. Garnish with herbs and serve.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth and soy sauce instead of Worcestershire. Consider adding mushrooms for extra flavor.
