Ingredients
Base:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 large yellow onions (thinly sliced)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
Additional Ingredients:
- 4 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 8 oz uncooked pasta (e.g., fettuccine or linguine)
- 4 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup shredded gruyère cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- fresh thyme or parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the Base: Heat olive oil and butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, pepper, and sugar. Cook slowly for 20–25 minutes until caramelized.
- Add Flavors: Stir in garlic, balsamic vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce for 2 minutes.
- Cook Pasta: Add uncooked pasta and beef broth. Boil, then simmer for 10–12 minutes until pasta is tender.
