Description

Indulge in the rich and decadent flavors of this Old-Fashioned Chocolate Pie. A velvety cocoa custard filling nestled in a flaky pie crust, topped with a dollop of whipped cream. This classic dessert is a delightful treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Pie Crust:

    1 9-inch pie crust (pre-baked)

Chocolate Filling:

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar, 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 cup cornstarch, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 3 cups whole milk, 4 large egg yolks, 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping:

    Whipped cream for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Chocolate Filling: In a saucepan, whisk sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt. Slowly add milk, cook until thickened.
  2. Temper Egg Yolks: Beat egg yolks. Gradually mix hot chocolate mixture with yolks, then return to heat and cook until glossy.
  3. Finish and Chill: Stir in butter and vanilla. Pour into pie crust, cool, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  4. Serve: Top with whipped cream before serving.

Notes

Use high-quality cocoa powder for a richer flavor. Best served chilled but can be enjoyed at room temperature. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
