Description

Delight in these easy-to-make Nutella Puff Pastries featuring flaky, golden-brown puff pastry filled with creamy hazelnut Nutella spread. Perfect as a sweet breakfast treat, dessert, or snack, these pastries combine the rich flavor of Nutella with a light, buttery pastry crust, enhanced by a beautiful egg wash glaze and a dusting of confectioners’ sugar.

Ingredients

Pastry

  • 1 package prepared puff pastry (usually 2 sheets)

Filling

  • ¾ cup Nutella hazelnut spread
  • 1 egg (for filling)

Egg Wash and Topping

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot enough to achieve the puff pastry’s signature rise and golden color.
  2. Prepare the pastry: Unroll the puff pastry sheets onto a lightly floured surface to prevent sticking. Cut each sheet into 4 equal squares for a total of 8 pieces.
  3. Add the Nutella filling: Place about 1 to 2 tablespoons of Nutella in the center of each square, spreading slightly but keeping clear of the edges for sealing.
  4. Apply egg wash to edges: Lightly beat one egg and use a pastry brush to coat the edges of each pastry square, which will help seal them shut during baking.
  5. Fold and seal: Fold each pastry square diagonally into a triangle or fold into a rectangle, pressing the edges firmly with your fingers or a fork to completely seal in the filling.
  6. Arrange pastries on baking sheet: Place the sealed pastries onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them to allow for puffing during baking.
  7. Brush tops with egg wash: Beat the remaining egg and brush it over the tops of the pastries to give a golden, glossy finish once baked.
  8. Bake: Bake the pastries in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they have puffed up nicely and turned a rich golden brown.
  9. Cool and dust: Remove from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes. Then, dust the pastries evenly with confectioners’ sugar for a sweet finishing touch.
  10. Serve and enjoy: Serve the Nutella puff pastries warm or at room temperature for the best flavor and texture experience.

Notes

  • For easier handling, keep the puff pastry chilled until ready to use.
  • Ensure edges are sealed tightly to prevent Nutella from leaking during baking.
  • Pastries are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
  • For a decorative edge, use a fork to crimp the pastry edges.
  • Optional: Add chopped hazelnuts inside or on top for extra crunch.
