Ingredients
Cupcake Batter:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup Nutella (plus more for filling and topping)
Filling and Topping:
- 12 teaspoons Nutella (for filling)
- Chocolate sprinkles or chopped hazelnuts (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add wet ingredients: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract and Nutella.
- Combine the batter: Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
- Fill cupcake liners: Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full. Add 1 teaspoon of Nutella to the center of each filled cupcake and gently swirl or push down slightly.
- Bake: Bake for 18–20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the edge comes out clean.
- Cool and top: Let cool completely before topping each with a dollop of Nutella and optional garnish.
