Description

This Non-Alcoholic Spiced Hot Toddy is a cozy, comforting beverage perfect for cold evenings or when you need a soothing drink. Combining black tea infused with warm spices like cinnamon, ginger, and cloves, with a touch of fresh lemon juice and honey, it offers a flavorful and aromatic experience without any alcohol content.

Ingredients

Tea Base

  • 1 black tea bag or 2 teaspoons loose leaf black tea
  • 1¼ cups water

Spices

  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1-inch piece of ginger root
  • ¼ teaspoon whole cloves

Additional Flavorings

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1-2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tea: Place the black tea bag or the loose leaf black tea into a small teapot or French press and set it aside, so it’s ready for steeping once the spiced water is ready.
  2. Simmer Spices: Break the cinnamon stick into smaller pieces and peel the ginger root, slicing it thinly. Add the cinnamon pieces, sliced ginger, cloves, and water to a small pot. Heat the pot over medium-high heat until the mixture comes to a simmer. Let it simmer gently for 3 minutes to extract the deep flavors of the spices into the water.
  3. Steep Tea with Spices: Carefully pour the hot spiced water mixture over the black tea in the teapot or French press. Allow everything to steep together for 5 minutes to develop a rich and aromatic brew.
  4. Strain and Serve: Strain the hot toddy mixture into a mug to remove the spices and tea leaves. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and honey until they are fully blended into the drink.
  5. Garnish and Enjoy: Optionally, garnish the hot toddy with a slice of lemon and a cinnamon stick for an extra touch of aroma and visual appeal. Serve warm for the best comforting experience.

Notes

  • Adjust honey quantity to taste for desired sweetness.
  • Use fresh ginger for the best flavor and aroma.
  • You can substitute black tea with green tea or herbal teas if preferred.
  • This recipe serves one but can be easily scaled up.
  • For a stronger spice flavor, increase simmer time by a couple of minutes.
