Description

These ultra-crispy mozzarella sticks are coated in bold Nashville Hot flavor with smoky heat, tangy buttermilk, and just a hint of sweetness—perfect for parties or spicy snack cravings.

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • Vegetable or canola oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Unwrap string cheese and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least 1 hour.
  2. Set up three bowls: one with flour (seasoned with salt and pepper), one with beaten eggs, and one with panko mixed with cayenne, paprika, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Dredge each frozen cheese stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
  4. Heat oil to 350°F in a deep skillet. Fry sticks in batches for 1–2 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Mix hot sauce, buttermilk, cayenne, paprika, garlic powder, brown sugar, and a couple tablespoons of frying oil. Brush or toss warm mozzarella sticks in this Nashville hot mixture.
  6. Serve immediately with a dipping sauce like ranch, aioli, or honey drizzle.

Notes

  • Freeze cheese before breading to avoid oozing during frying.
  • Double breading adds extra crunch.
  • Adjust cayenne to control heat.
  • Make ahead: Bread and freeze sticks before frying for later use.
  • Oven or air-fry as a lighter alternative.
