Description

These Monte Cristo Sliders are a delightful twist on the classic sandwich, combining layers of Swiss cheese, ham, and turkey on soft Hawaiian rolls. Baked to golden perfection with a buttery egg wash and topped with a hint of powdered sugar, they’re perfect for parties or a fun family meal, especially when paired with sweet raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping.

Ingredients

Slider Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices deli-sliced ham
  • 12 slices deli-sliced turkey
  • 12 slices deli-sliced Swiss cheese

Wash & Topping

  • 1/3 cup (76 g) salted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • Raspberry or strawberry jam, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C) and spray a 9×13 inch baking pan with non-stick spray to prevent the sliders from sticking during baking.
  2. Prepare the Rolls: Without separating the rolls, slice the entire package horizontally into halves. Place the bottom halves in the prepared baking pan to form the base layer.
  3. Assembly: Layer half of the Swiss cheese slices evenly over the bottom rolls, then add all the ham slices, followed by all the turkey slices, and finally the remaining Swiss cheese slices. Place the top halves of the rolls over the layered ingredients.
  4. Make and Apply Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, egg, and pepper until combined. Using a pastry brush, evenly coat the tops of the rolls with this mixture to create a golden crust while baking.
  5. Bake: Bake the assembled sliders in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until the cheese is melted thoroughly and the tops of the rolls are toasted golden brown. If the tops brown too quickly, cover with foil to avoid burning.
  6. Finishing Touch: Remove the sliders from the oven and immediately sprinkle the tops with powdered sugar for a sweet, classic finish. Serve warm with raspberry or strawberry jam for dipping to complete the Monte Cristo experience.

Notes

  • Keep the rolls together while slicing to maintain the slider shape during assembly.
  • If you prefer a less sweet finish, reduce or omit the powdered sugar topping.
  • Substitute Dijon mustard into the layers for a tangy twist if desired.
  • These sliders are best served warm to enjoy the melted cheese and soft bread texture.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven to retain crispness.
