Description

Mini Phyllo Tacos are a delightful and flavorful appetizer combining crispy phyllo shells filled with seasoned ground beef or turkey, melted cheddar cheese, and fresh toppings like sour cream, salsa, tomatoes, lettuce, and olives. Perfect for parties, game days, or a fun taco night, these bite-sized tacos offer a satisfying crunch and a burst of Tex-Mex flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

Phyllo Shells and Filling

  • 30 mini phyllo shells (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Toppings

  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup chopped cherry tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup shredded lettuce
  • 2 tablespoons sliced black olives
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions
  • Chopped cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and arrange the mini phyllo shells evenly on a baking sheet, ready for filling and baking.
  2. Cook Meat: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef or turkey and cook until browned, approximately 5–6 minutes, stirring occasionally to break up the meat.
  3. Season Meat: Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Stir in the taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water. Let the mixture simmer for 2–3 minutes until it thickens and the flavors meld.
  4. Fill Shells: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the seasoned taco meat into each mini phyllo shell, making sure to distribute the filling evenly among all shells.
  5. Add Cheese and Bake: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over each filled shell. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5–7 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the phyllo shells turn lightly crisp and golden.
  6. Top and Serve: Remove the minis from the oven. Top each with a small dollop of sour cream, a touch of salsa, chopped cherry tomatoes, shredded lettuce, sliced black olives, and chopped green onions. Garnish with chopped cilantro if desired. Serve immediately to enjoy the optimal crispness.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian alternative, substitute the ground meat with seasoned black beans or your favorite plant-based meat substitute.
  • Assemble the toppings just before serving to ensure the phyllo shells remain crisp and crunchy.
  • These mini tacos are perfect for parties, game day snacks, or as a festive appetizer for taco night gatherings.
