This Mango Habanero Honey Garlic Sauce is a vibrant and spicy-sweet tropical glaze that combines the sweetness of ripe mango with the heat of habanero peppers, balanced by honey, garlic, and a touch of vinegar. Perfect for glazing grilled meats, tossing with shrimp, or drizzling over roasted vegetables, this fusion Caribbean-inspired sauce offers a delicious punch of flavor with a smooth, pourable texture.
Ingredients
Primary Ingredients
- 1 ripe mango, peeled and chopped
- 1–2 habanero peppers, seeded for less heat
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar or apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup water, as needed for thinning
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a blender or food processor, add the chopped mango, seeded habanero peppers, honey, vinegar, soy sauce, minced garlic, lime juice, olive oil, and salt. Blend all ingredients until the mixture is completely smooth and well combined.
- Simmer Sauce: Pour the blended mixture into a saucepan and place over medium heat. Bring it to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and scorching.
- Thicken Sauce: Cook the sauce for 10 to 12 minutes, continuing to stir occasionally. This process will slightly thicken the sauce and deepen the flavors. If the sauce becomes too thick, gradually stir in water to reach your preferred consistency.
- Adjust Flavor: Taste the sauce and adjust the heat level or sweetness as desired by adding more habanero, honey, or other ingredients according to your preference.
- Cool and Store: Remove the saucepan from heat and allow the sauce to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer the sauce into a jar or airtight container. Store refrigerated for up to 10 days.
Notes
- For a milder sauce, use only one habanero pepper or substitute it with jalapeño peppers.
- This sauce works wonderfully as a glaze for grilled chicken or shrimp.
- Try drizzling it over roasted vegetables to add a spicy-sweet tropical flavor.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume within 10 days for optimal freshness.
