Ingredients
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
- 2 cups light brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven and prepare the pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Mix butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth and combined.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Add the eggs and vanilla extract, stirring until well incorporated.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Optional pecans: Fold in chopped pecans if using.
- Bake: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and cut: Allow to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
- These bars get chewier as they cool.
- For extra richness, sprinkle the top with a light dusting of powdered sugar or drizzle with melted chocolate.
- You can also swap pecans for walnuts or leave them out entirely.
