Description

This Lemon Blueberry Puff Pastry Tart is a delightful and elegant dessert or brunch dish featuring flaky puff pastry topped with a creamy lemon-curd and cream cheese mixture, fresh blueberries, and a subtle touch of lemon zest. Perfect for spring or summer gatherings, this tart combines tangy citrus flavors with sweet berries, baked to golden perfection and optionally garnished with powdered sugar and fresh mint.

Ingredients

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)

Filling

  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon curd
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon lemon zest
  • ¾ cup fresh blueberries

For Finishing

  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
  • Fresh mint or extra lemon zest for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pastry: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the thawed puff pastry slightly to smooth out creases and lay it on the prepared baking sheet. Using a sharp knife, carefully score a ½-inch border around the edge of the pastry without cutting all the way through. Prick the pastry inside the border with a fork to prevent excessive puffing during baking.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, lemon curd, granulated sugar, and lemon zest until smooth and creamy. Spread this mixture evenly within the inner rectangle of the scored pastry, staying inside the border.
  3. Add blueberries and egg wash: Evenly scatter the fresh blueberries on top of the lemon cream cheese filling. Then, brush the exposed pastry border with the beaten egg to help it achieve a glossy, golden finish when baked.
  4. Bake the tart: Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes or until the pastry edges are puffed and golden brown. Keep an eye on the tart to avoid over-browning.
  5. Cool and garnish: Remove the tart from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes. Optionally, dust the top lightly with powdered sugar and garnish with fresh mint leaves or extra lemon zest for a fresh, vibrant touch. Slice and serve.

Notes

  • Lemon curd can be substituted with Greek yogurt or enhanced by adding a swirl of raspberry jam for a fruity twist.
  • This tart is best enjoyed fresh on the day it’s made to preserve the crispness of the pastry and freshness of the blueberries.
  • Use fresh blueberries for optimal flavor and texture; frozen berries may release excess moisture and affect the puff pastry.
  • For a dairy-free version, consider replacing cream cheese with a vegan cream cheese alternative and check the puff pastry ingredients.
