Description
Lemon Basil Salmon Rolls are a fresh and flavorful dish featuring tender cooked salmon mixed with zesty lemon, fragrant basil, and a creamy dressing, all wrapped neatly in soft tortillas. Perfect for a light lunch, picnic, or appetizer, these salmon rolls are easy to prepare, nutritious, and can be served chilled or at room temperature.
Ingredients
Salmon Filling
- 8 oz cooked salmon (fresh, canned, or smoked), flaked
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise or Greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp lemon zest
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/3 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion (optional)
Assembly
- 4 large flour tortillas or wraps
- 1/2 cup shredded lettuce or baby spinach
Instructions
- Prepare the salmon mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the flaked salmon, mayonnaise or Greek yogurt, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, lemon zest, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and chopped basil. Mix until all ingredients are well blended. If desired, stir in the finely chopped red onion to add extra flavor and texture.
- Prepare the tortillas: Lay the flour tortillas flat on a clean surface. Evenly divide the shredded lettuce or baby spinach among the tortillas, spreading it out in a layer.
- Assemble the rolls: Spoon the prepared salmon mixture on top of the lettuce or spinach on each tortilla. Spread the filling into an even layer to ensure a balanced bite.
- Roll and slice: Roll up each tortilla tightly, similar to rolling a burrito. For serving, slice the rolls in half or cut them into bite-sized pinwheels, ideal for appetizers or finger food.
- Serve: Serve the salmon rolls chilled or at room temperature, depending on your preference. Enjoy immediately or refrigerate for later.
Notes
- These rolls make a great lunch, picnic dish, or light dinner option.
- You can prepare the salmon filling up to a day ahead for convenience.
- For a low-carb alternative, use large lettuce leaves instead of tortillas.
- If using canned salmon, drain excess liquid to avoid soggy rolls.
- Substitute Greek yogurt for mayonnaise for a lighter version.
