Main Ingredients
- 2 slices hearty bread (sourdough or whole wheat recommended)
- 4 oz cooked leftover turkey, sliced
Fillings
- 1/4 cup leftover stuffing
- 2 tbsp cranberry sauce
- 2 tbsp gravy, plus extra for dipping
- 1–2 lettuce leaves, or baby spinach
Optional Extras
- 1 slice cheese (Swiss or cheddar)
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp butter, for toasting (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Gather all leftovers (turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy) and prep any additions like lettuce, cheese, or mayonnaise. If you prefer a warm sandwich, gently reheat turkey and stuffing in the microwave for 20–30 seconds or until warm to the touch.
- Toast the Bread (Optional): For maximum flavor and texture, butter the outsides of the bread slices and toast them in a skillet over medium heat until golden and crisp, about 2 minutes per side. If you prefer untoasted bread, you can skip this step.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Spread a thin layer of mayonnaise on the inner side of each bread slice if using. Lay the bottom slice on your work surface. Begin layering with lettuce leaves, followed by the sliced turkey. Evenly spread the stuffing over the turkey, then drizzle with 2 tablespoons of gravy.
- Add Cranberry Sauce and Cheese: Dollop the cranberry sauce over the layers. If adding cheese, place the slice on the stacked fillings now.
- Finish and Serve: Top the sandwich with the second slice of bread. Press down lightly. If desired, cut in half diagonally and serve with extra warm gravy on the side for dipping. Enjoy your Thanksgiving flavors all over again!
Notes
- You can substitute any bread, including rolls or leftover dinner buns.
- Warmed fillings create a cozier, melty sandwich; keep cold if you prefer fresher textures.
- Try adding roasted vegetables like green beans or sweet potatoes for even more flavor layers.
- Make it vegetarian by using plant-based turkey substitutes and veggie stuffing.
