Description
These Japanese Crème Filled Sandwiches are a delightful treat featuring soft milk bread filled with a luscious whipped cream and optional fresh fruit. Perfect for a light dessert or snack!
Ingredients
For the Bread:
- 8 slices soft, crustless milk bread (shokupan or any soft white bread)
For the Crème Filling:
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
For the Fruit (optional but traditional):
- 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries, kiwi, or mandarin oranges (drained if canned)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the cold heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
- Lay out the slices of milk bread on a clean surface. Spread a thick, even layer of the whipped crème onto 4 of the slices. If using fruit, gently press a few pieces into the crème, being careful not to overfill. Top with the remaining bread slices to make sandwiches.
- Press gently to seal, then wrap each sandwich tightly in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- To serve, trim the edges (if needed) and cut into halves or quarters. Serve chilled.
Notes
- For the most authentic version, use Japanese milk bread for an ultra-soft texture.
- You can also use flavored whipped cream (like matcha or chocolate) or fill with custard instead.
- Best enjoyed the same day for peak freshness.
