Description

These Japanese Crème Filled Sandwiches are a delightful treat featuring soft milk bread filled with a luscious whipped cream and optional fresh fruit. Perfect for a light dessert or snack!

Ingredients

For the Bread:

  • 8 slices soft, crustless milk bread (shokupan or any soft white bread)

For the Crème Filling:

  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

For the Fruit (optional but traditional):

  • 1 cup sliced fresh strawberries, kiwi, or mandarin oranges (drained if canned)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat the cold heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  2. Lay out the slices of milk bread on a clean surface. Spread a thick, even layer of the whipped crème onto 4 of the slices. If using fruit, gently press a few pieces into the crème, being careful not to overfill. Top with the remaining bread slices to make sandwiches.
  3. Press gently to seal, then wrap each sandwich tightly in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  4. To serve, trim the edges (if needed) and cut into halves or quarters. Serve chilled.

Notes

  • For the most authentic version, use Japanese milk bread for an ultra-soft texture.
  • You can also use flavored whipped cream (like matcha or chocolate) or fill with custard instead.
  • Best enjoyed the same day for peak freshness.
