Description
Savory, juicy burgers made with Italian sausage, ground pork or beef, and packed with herbs, garlic, and a hint of spice, perfect for grilling or pan-frying.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot)
- 1/2 lb ground pork or beef
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tsp fennel seeds (optional)
- 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 buns (ciabatta or classic burger)
- Toppings: roasted red peppers, provolone cheese, fresh basil
- Olive oil, for grilling or pan-frying
Instructions
- Remove sausage from casings and add to a mixing bowl with ground pork or beef.
- Sprinkle in garlic, fresh parsley, fennel seeds, crushed red pepper flakes, grated Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
- Shape the mixture into thick burger patties slightly larger than your buns, and press a small dimple in the center of each patty.
- Heat grill or skillet over medium-high heat and brush with olive oil. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until caramelized and cooked through.
- If adding cheese, place a slice of provolone on the patty after flipping and cook for another 1-2 minutes to melt.
- Toast the buns in the skillet or on the grill until golden and crisp on the cut side.
- Assemble the burgers by placing patties on buns and topping with provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, and fresh basil. Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- For spicier burgers, use hot Italian sausage and increase the amount of crushed red pepper flakes.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free buns or serve the patties over a salad or grilled veggies.
- Serve with sides like oven fries, caprese salad, or parmesan truffle fries for an Italian-inspired meal.
