Description

Savory, juicy burgers made with Italian sausage, ground pork or beef, and packed with herbs, garlic, and a hint of spice, perfect for grilling or pan-frying.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot)
  • 1/2 lb ground pork or beef
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 buns (ciabatta or classic burger)
  • Toppings: roasted red peppers, provolone cheese, fresh basil
  • Olive oil, for grilling or pan-frying

Instructions

  1. Remove sausage from casings and add to a mixing bowl with ground pork or beef.
  2. Sprinkle in garlic, fresh parsley, fennel seeds, crushed red pepper flakes, grated Parmesan, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into thick burger patties slightly larger than your buns, and press a small dimple in the center of each patty.
  4. Heat grill or skillet over medium-high heat and brush with olive oil. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side until caramelized and cooked through.
  5. If adding cheese, place a slice of provolone on the patty after flipping and cook for another 1-2 minutes to melt.
  6. Toast the buns in the skillet or on the grill until golden and crisp on the cut side.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing patties on buns and topping with provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, and fresh basil. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

  • For spicier burgers, use hot Italian sausage and increase the amount of crushed red pepper flakes.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free buns or serve the patties over a salad or grilled veggies.
  • Serve with sides like oven fries, caprese salad, or parmesan truffle fries for an Italian-inspired meal.
