Ingredients
Meat
- 1 package (14 ounces) cocktail sausages (lil smokies)
Sauce and Seasoning
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/3 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Garnish (optional)
- Chopped fresh parsley or sliced green onions
Instructions
- Prepare garlic: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, stirring continuously to prevent burning.
- Cook sausages: Add the cocktail sausages to the skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are browned and heated all the way through.
- Make sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together honey, hot sauce, and soy sauce until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
- Coat sausages: Pour the prepared sauce over the browned sausages in the skillet. Stir thoroughly to coat all pieces evenly with the sauce.
- Simmer: Let the mixture simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes glossy. Then remove the skillet from the heat.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle red pepper flakes over the sausages for additional heat if desired. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions. Serve warm, ideally with toothpicks for easy eating.
Notes
- Use more or less hot sauce depending on your preferred spice level.
- For a gluten-free version, replace soy sauce with a gluten-free tamari sauce.
- These can be kept warm in a slow cooker on low for serving at parties.
- Adjust honey quantity for sweeter or less sweet glaze.
- Skillet size should be large enough to avoid overcrowding the sausages.
