Description

These Hot Honey Garlic Lil Smokies are a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. Quick to prepare and cooked in a skillet, these cocktail sausages are coated in a sticky honey garlic sauce with a kick of hot sauce and garnished with fresh herbs. Ideal as a crowd-pleasing appetizer or party snack.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 package (14 ounces) cocktail sausages (lil smokies)

Sauce and Seasoning

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Garnish (optional)

  • Chopped fresh parsley or sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare garlic: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, stirring continuously to prevent burning.
  2. Cook sausages: Add the cocktail sausages to the skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are browned and heated all the way through.
  3. Make sauce: In a separate bowl, whisk together honey, hot sauce, and soy sauce until the mixture is well combined and smooth.
  4. Coat sausages: Pour the prepared sauce over the browned sausages in the skillet. Stir thoroughly to coat all pieces evenly with the sauce.
  5. Simmer: Let the mixture simmer for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and becomes glossy. Then remove the skillet from the heat.
  6. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle red pepper flakes over the sausages for additional heat if desired. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions. Serve warm, ideally with toothpicks for easy eating.

Notes

  • Use more or less hot sauce depending on your preferred spice level.
  • For a gluten-free version, replace soy sauce with a gluten-free tamari sauce.
  • These can be kept warm in a slow cooker on low for serving at parties.
  • Adjust honey quantity for sweeter or less sweet glaze.
  • Skillet size should be large enough to avoid overcrowding the sausages.
