Description

Hot honey avocado halloumi toast on sourdough is a bold, savory-sweet twist on your classic avocado toast. Creamy smashed avocado pairs with crispy golden halloumi, all drizzled with a spicy hot honey over toasted sourdough. It’s the perfect brunch or light lunch that’s packed with flavor and texture.

Ingredients

Bread and Avocado

  • 4 slices sourdough bread, toasted
  • 1 large ripe avocado, peeled and mashed
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Halloumi and Toppings

  • 6 oz halloumi cheese, sliced into 1/4-inch thick pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2–1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh thyme or microgreens for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the avocado: In a small bowl, mash the avocado with lemon juice, salt, and pepper until smooth but still slightly chunky to maintain texture.
  2. Cook the halloumi: Heat olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat and cook the halloumi slices for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy on the outside while soft inside.
  3. Make the hot honey drizzle: In a separate bowl, mix the honey with hot sauce to create a spicy-sweet drizzle; adjust the amount of hot sauce depending on your heat preference.
  4. Prepare the toast base: Toast the sourdough slices until golden and crispy. Optionally, rub the warm toast with a garlic clove for extra flavor.
  5. Assemble the toast: Spread the mashed avocado evenly over each toasted slice, then layer with the warm, crispy halloumi slices.
  6. Finish and serve: Drizzle generously with the hot honey mixture and garnish with crushed red pepper flakes and fresh thyme or microgreens if using. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, rub the toasted sourdough with a garlic clove before adding the avocado.
  • You can add a poached or fried egg on top for extra protein and to make it more filling.
  • Use chili-infused honey if available to deepen the spicy sweetness of the drizzle.
