Description

These Homemade Puff Pastry Pizza Pockets are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or meal, featuring crispy golden puff pastry filled with savory marinara sauce, gooey mozzarella cheese, pepperoni or sausage, and optional veggies. Perfect for a quick lunch, party appetizer, or kid-friendly treat.

Ingredients

For the Pizza Pockets

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup mini pepperoni or chopped cooked sausage
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives (optional)
  • 1/4 cup diced bell peppers (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Flour for dusting

For the Egg Wash

  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and promote even baking.
  2. Roll and Cut Puff Pastry: Lightly flour a clean work surface and roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet gently to smooth out any seams. Cut the pastry into 6 equal rectangular pieces using a knife or pizza cutter.
  3. Add Sauce and Fillings: Spoon a small amount of marinara sauce onto one half of each rectangle, leaving about a 1/2-inch border around the edges to seal later. Then, layer shredded mozzarella cheese, mini pepperoni or sausage, black olives, and bell peppers if using on top of the sauce. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning to enhance flavor.
  4. Form the Pockets: Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling to create pockets. Press the edges firmly together, then crimp the edges using a fork to seal completely and prevent leakage during baking.
  5. Prepare Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush this glaze generously over the tops of each pocket to achieve a golden, shiny finish after baking.
  6. Bake the Pockets: Place the prepared pockets on the lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the pizza pockets cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them warm, optionally accompanied by extra marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • You can customize the filling with additional ingredients like mushrooms, onions, or cooked bacon according to your taste preferences.
  • Serve these pizza pockets with extra marinara sauce on the side for a delicious dipping option.
