Ingredients
Dough:
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Additional:
- 2/3 cup baking soda (for water bath)
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse salt for topping
Instructions
- Mix the Dough: In a stand mixer bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit until foamy. Add flour, salt, and melted butter. Mix on low, then knead until smooth.
- Rise: Let dough rise for 45–60 minutes until doubled.
- Prep: Preheat oven to 425°F. Line baking sheets. Boil water with baking soda.
- Shape: Divide dough, roll into ropes, and cut into pieces.
- Boil: Boil pretzel pieces, then place on baking sheets. Brush with egg and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake: Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
