Chocolate Shell Ingredients
- 1 cup (170g) semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate)
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil (refined or unrefined)
Optional Toppings
- Sprinkles
- Chopped nuts
- Sea salt flakes
Instructions
- Melt the Chocolate and Coconut Oil: In a microwave-safe bowl or small saucepan, combine the chocolate and coconut oil. If using the microwave, heat in 20-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth and fully melted. On the stovetop, use low heat and stir constantly until melted and blended.
- Cool Slightly: Allow the mixture to cool for 2–3 minutes. This ensures it’s not too hot when poured over ice cream, but still runny enough to pour easily.
- Pour Over Ice Cream: Drizzle or spoon the magic shell over your favorite ice cream. Wait a few seconds—watch the shell harden into a crackly layer.
- Add Toppings (Optional): If desired, immediately sprinkle toppings onto the wet shell before it hardens.
- Store Leftovers: Transfer any leftovers to a jar and keep at room temperature for up to two weeks. If it hardens, briefly microwave to liquefy again before using.
Notes
- Use coconut oil for best results; other oils may not harden as well.
- You can use milk, dark, or even white chocolate chips.
- Store in a sealed jar at room temperature; avoid the fridge, as it will solidify.
- Add a pinch of sea salt to enhance the chocolate flavor.
