Ingredients
For the Caramelized Onions
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 ½ cups chopped onion
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
For the Dip
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Gather Ingredients: Collect all the ingredients needed for the dip to make sure you have everything at hand before starting.
- Caramelize Onions: Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt. Cook, stirring frequently, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Prepare Dip Base: In a bowl, combine 1 cup sour cream, 1 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper, and the remaining 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Mix well until smooth.
- Combine: Stir the cooled caramelized onions into the sour cream mixture until fully incorporated. Chill if desired before serving.
Notes
- For best flavor, allow the dip to chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
- If you prefer a smoother texture, you can finely chop or pulse the caramelized onions before mixing them in.
- Adjust seasoning to taste, especially salt and pepper.
- Serve with potato chips, vegetable sticks, or crackers for a delicious appetizer.
- Leftover dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
