Description
Soft, pillowy breadsticks topped with gooey mozzarella, savory Parmesan, garlic, and herbs—perfect for dipping or serving as a comforting appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 3 cups all‑purpose flour
- 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until frothy to activate yeast.
- Add olive oil, salt, and flour. Stir until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch down dough and press it into a parchment‑lined baking sheet (about ½” thick). Brush with melted butter.
- Sprinkle garlic powder, Italian seasoning, mozzarella, and Parmesan evenly over the top.
- Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12–15 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and edges are golden. Let cool slightly, then slice into breadsticks.
- Optional: Brush again with melted butter and sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- Substitute store‑bought pizza dough to save time.
- Try different cheeses—provolone, cheddar, or asiago give delicious variations.
- Add toppings like olives, crumbled bacon, sun‑dried tomatoes, or extra herbs.
- To freeze, wrap cooled breadsticks individually and freeze up to 2 months. Reheat in a 350°F oven until warm.
- For gluten‑free, use a blend with xanthan gum; for vegan, swap cheeses and use olive oil instead of butter.
