Description

Heavenly Baked Chicken Alfredo Calzones combine tender, seasoned chicken with creamy Alfredo sauce and gooey mozzarella inside a perfectly golden, crispy dough. This comforting Italian-inspired dish is easy to make at home, baked to perfection, and great for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Filling

  • 2 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or diced
  • 1 cup Alfredo sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Topping

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast and Prepare Dough: In a bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms then knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  2. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  3. Mix Filling: In a large bowl, combine cooked shredded chicken, Alfredo sauce, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and pinch of salt and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are fully coated and combined.
  4. Divide and Roll Dough: Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 4–6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a 6–8 inch circle on a floured surface.
  5. Fill and Seal Calzones: Spoon the chicken Alfredo filling onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a ½-inch border. Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press edges firmly to seal and crimp with a fork to ensure no filling leaks.
  6. Apply Egg Wash and Bake: Place each calzone on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg wash to achieve a shiny golden crust during baking. Bake for 15–20 minutes or until calzones turn golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Finish with Butter and Garlic: Remove calzones from the oven and immediately brush with melted butter mixed with minced garlic (optional) for a fragrant, savory finish. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can skip making the dough from scratch and use 1 lb store-bought pizza dough for convenience.
  • Make sure the water is warm but not hot when activating the yeast to avoid killing it.
  • For fluffier dough, allow it to rise in a warm, draft-free area.
  • Customize the filling with your favorite cheeses or add veggies like spinach or mushrooms.
  • Brushing with garlic butter after baking adds extra flavor but can be omitted for a simpler taste.
