Description

These Heart-Shaped Sugar Cookies with Buttercream Roses are a delightful treat perfect for Valentine’s Day or any special occasion. The buttery cookies are topped with beautiful buttercream roses, making them not only delicious but also visually stunning.

Ingredients

For the Cookies:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (red, pink, green for roses and leaves)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cookies: In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture to form a dough.
  2. Chill the Dough: Divide dough in half, flatten into disks, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  3. Bake the Cookies: Roll out chilled dough, cut out heart shapes, and bake at 350°F for 8–10 minutes. Cool completely.
  4. Decorate with Buttercream: Prepare frosting by beating butter, adding powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla. Divide and tint with food coloring. Pipe roses and leaves onto cookies.

Notes

  • Chill cookies before decorating to reduce crumbs.
  • Buttercream roses set best if cookies are chilled before serving.
