Description

Gyeran Bap is a simple and comforting Korean egg rice dish featuring fluffy cooked rice topped with runny fried eggs, sesame oil, soy sauce, and garnished with sesame seeds and green onions. This quick and easy recipe is perfect for a satisfying breakfast or light meal.

Ingredients

Rice and Eggs

  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

Seasonings and Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the Eggs: In a large pan, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the pan and cook until the whites are fully set but the yolks remain runny, approximately 3-4 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Rice: In a bowl, add the cooked white rice. Drizzle with soy sauce and gently toss to evenly combine the flavors.
  3. Assemble the Dish: Transfer the soy sauce-seasoned rice to serving bowls. Place the cooked eggs on top of the rice.
  4. Garnish and Season: Sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the eggs and rice. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve: Serve immediately while the eggs are warm and the yolks are runny for the best comforting experience.

Notes

  • Use freshly cooked rice for the best texture; day-old rice can be too dry.
  • Adjust the amount of soy sauce and salt according to your taste preference.
  • For a less runny yolk, cook eggs longer to your desired doneness.
  • This dish can be customized by adding kimchi or other Korean side dishes.
