Description

A quick and creamy Ground Beef Stroganoff served over fluffy white rice, featuring tender mushrooms and a rich sour cream sauce. Perfect for a comforting weeknight family dinner with simple ingredients and easy stovetop cooking.

Ingredients

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms (white or cremini)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 ½ cups beef broth
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons cream cheese (optional for extra creaminess)

To Serve

  • 3 cups cooked white rice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned and fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed to reduce greasiness.
  2. Sauté Onion, Garlic, and Mushrooms: Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, cooking for another 5 to 6 minutes until mushrooms are tender and most liquid has evaporated.
  3. Add Spices and Flour: Sprinkle the all-purpose flour, paprika, salt, and black pepper over the beef mixture. Stir well to coat and cook for about 1 minute to remove raw flour taste.
  4. Add Worcestershire Sauce and Broth: Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and slowly add the beef broth while stirring continuously to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Incorporate Creams: Lower the heat to low, then stir in the sour cream and cream cheese (if using) until the sauce is smooth and creamy. Simmer gently for 2 more minutes to meld flavors.
  6. Serve: Spoon the rich stroganoff over warm cooked white rice. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired for a burst of freshness and color.

Notes

  • This recipe can be made lighter by substituting ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
  • For added nutrition and texture, you can stir in frozen peas or spinach at the end of cooking.
  • Leftovers store well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, allow it to simmer a few minutes longer before adding the sour cream.
  • Serve with a side salad or steamed vegetables for a balanced meal.
