Description

This Grilled Orange BBQ Chicken recipe features tender boneless, skinless chicken marinated in a vibrant mixture of orange juice, brown sugar, and BBQ sauce. Perfectly grilled to smoky, caramelized perfection, it’s a delicious and easy meal that brings a citrusy twist to classic barbecue chicken, ideal for summer gatherings or quick weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Marinade Ingredients

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 6 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 6 Tbsp BBQ sauce

Chicken

  • 4 to 6 boneless skinless chicken breasts

Additional

  • Extra BBQ sauce for brushing (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup orange juice, 6 tablespoons brown sugar, and 6 tablespoons BBQ sauce until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is well combined.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Place 4 to 6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts in a gallon-sized ziplock bag. Pour the prepared marinade over the chicken, seal the bag tightly, removing as much air as possible, and refrigerate for 2 to 4 hours to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.
  3. Preheat and Grill: Remove the chicken breasts from the marinade and discard the marinade. Preheat a grill to medium-high heat. Grill the chicken for about 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and has nice grill marks, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  4. Brush with BBQ Sauce: During the last few minutes of grilling, brush both sides of the chicken breasts with additional BBQ sauce for an extra layer of flavor and caramelization. Remove from the grill and let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Marinating for the full 4 hours maximizes flavor absorption but even 2 hours will result in tasty chicken.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure chicken is cooked safely to 165°F (74°C).
  • For added smoky flavor, use charcoal or wood chips if grilling outdoors.
  • Consider serving with grilled vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
  • If no grill is available, cooking the chicken on a stovetop grill pan is a good alternative.
  • To reduce sugar content, choose a low-sugar BBQ sauce and reduce brown sugar slightly.
