Ingredients
Chicken and Seasoning
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (butterflied and pounded thin)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Sandwich Fillings
- 4 slices deli ham
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
Buns and Condiments
- 4 sandwich rolls or brioche buns
- 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional, for toasting buns)
Optional Additions
- Lettuce and tomato slices for serving
Instructions
- Preheat and Season: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Rub both sides of the butterflied and pounded chicken breasts with olive oil and then evenly coat with the seasoning mixture.
- Grill the Chicken: Place the seasoned chicken breasts on the grill and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side, or until fully cooked and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Melt Ham and Cheese: During the last minute of grilling, top each chicken breast with 2 slices of deli ham and 2 slices of Swiss cheese. Close the grill lid or cover to allow the cheese to melt slightly over the chicken and ham.
- Toast the Buns: While the chicken is finishing, mix Dijon mustard and mayonnaise in a small bowl. Spread this mixture on the inside of the sandwich rolls. Optionally, spread butter on the buns before placing them cut side down on the grill. Toast for 1 to 2 minutes until golden brown.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Place the grilled chicken topped with melted ham and cheese onto the toasted buns. Add optional fresh lettuce and tomato slices if desired. Serve the sandwiches warm for the best flavor experience.
Notes
- You can substitute provolone cheese for the Swiss cheese based on your preference.
- For enhanced flavor, marinate the chicken breasts in a mixture of Dijon mustard and lemon juice for 30 minutes before grilling.
- This sandwich also pairs well with ciabatta or sourdough rolls instead of brioche buns.
