Description

A delicious twist on two comfort food favorites, combining the cheesy goodness of grilled cheese with the hearty filling of sloppy joes.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 slices sandwich bread
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is tender. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. Butter one side of each bread slice. Place four slices, butter-side down, in a skillet or griddle.
  4. Top each with shredded cheddar, a generous scoop of sloppy joe mixture, more cheese, and another slice of bread, butter-side up.
  5. Cook over medium heat until golden brown and the cheese is melted, flipping once (about 3–4 minutes per side).
  6. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use American cheese or mozzarella for variation.
  • Can be made with ground turkey or plant-based meat alternatives.
  • Great for using leftover sloppy joe filling.
