Description

These Grilled Cheese Roll Ups are a fun and easy twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich. Made by flattening bread slices, layering cheese, and rolling them into logs before pan-frying, they create crispy, golden exteriors with gooey melted cheese inside. Perfect as a kid-friendly lunch, snack, or appetizer served warm with your favorite dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 8 slices white sandwich bread, crusts removed
  • 8 slices American or cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Flatten the bread: Use a rolling pin to gently flatten each slice of bread until thin and even.
  2. Add cheese: Place one slice of cheese on each flattened bread slice. Trim the cheese if necessary to fit the bread perfectly.
  3. Roll the bread: Tightly roll each slice of bread with cheese into a log shape, pressing gently to seal the edges so the cheese doesn’t melt out during cooking.
  4. Heat butter in skillet: Place a nonstick skillet over medium heat and melt half of the butter to coat the surface.
  5. Cook roll ups: Place the roll ups seam-side down in the skillet. Cook, turning occasionally, until all sides are golden brown and the cheese inside is melted, about 5–7 minutes total. Add the remaining butter as needed while cooking.
  6. Serve warm: Remove the roll ups from the skillet and serve immediately while warm and gooey, perhaps with tomato soup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Try different cheeses like mozzarella, pepper jack, or Swiss for varied flavors.
  • Serve with tomato soup or dipping sauces such as ketchup, ranch, or marinara for a fun, flavorful twist.
