Description

This Greek Beef Stuffed Pita with Lemon Garlic Yogurt is a flavorful and satisfying Mediterranean-inspired dish. Perfect for a quick dinner, it combines seasoned ground beef with fresh vegetables and a tangy yogurt sauce, all wrapped in warm pita bread. Enjoy a delicious balance of spices, creamy feta, and zesty lemon garlic yogurt that makes each bite irresistible.

Ingredients

For the Beef Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

For the Pita and Veggies

  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced cucumber
  • 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese

For the Lemon Garlic Yogurt Sauce

  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic, finely grated
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté Onions: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and sauté the onion until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add Garlic and Cook: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant, stirring constantly to prevent burning.
  3. Brown the Beef: Stir in the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until fully browned and no longer pink, about 7 to 8 minutes.
  4. Season the Meat: Add the dried oregano, ground cumin, smoked paprika, ground cinnamon, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes to allow the spices to blend and become aromatic. Remove skillet from heat.
  5. Prepare the Yogurt Sauce: In a small bowl, combine plain Greek yogurt, fresh lemon juice, lemon zest, olive oil, grated garlic, and a pinch of salt. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  6. Warm and Prepare Pitas: Slightly warm the pita breads in a dry skillet or microwave. Slice each pita open gently to create pockets for stuffing.
  7. Assemble Stuffed Pitas: Fill each pita pocket evenly with the seasoned beef mixture, followed by shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced cucumber, and crumbled feta cheese.
  8. Add Yogurt Sauce and Serve: Drizzle each stuffed pita generously with the lemon garlic yogurt sauce and serve immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For a more traditional Greek flavor, substitute ground lamb for the beef.
  • Add sliced olives for an extra briny note.
  • Fresh herbs such as parsley or dill can be incorporated for added freshness and aroma.
  • Warm the pita slightly before stuffing to prevent tearing and enhance softness.
