Ingredients
Cake
- 1 box vanilla cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
- 1/2 cup rainbow sprinkles
Frosting and Coating
- 1 cup frosting (any flavor, preferably vanilla or cream cheese)
- 1/2 cup white chocolate chips (for dipping)
Other
- 12 cake pop sticks
Instructions
- Prepare the cake: Follow the instructions on the vanilla cake mix box to prepare the batter. Bake it in a 9×13-inch pan as directed. Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely to room temperature to ensure it crumbles easily without becoming mushy.
- Mix cake with frosting and sprinkles: Crumble the cooled cake into a large mixing bowl. Add 1 cup of frosting and 1/2 cup of rainbow sprinkles to the crumbled cake, mixing thoroughly until well combined. The mixture should hold together when pressed.
- Form cake balls: Roll the cake mixture into evenly sized 1-inch balls. Place each ball on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking. Chill the balls in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to firm up before proceeding.
- Prepare the sticks: Melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in 20-second intervals and stirring until smooth. Dip the tip of each cake pop stick into the melted white chocolate and then insert it halfway into each cake ball. This helps secure the stick inside the cake pop.
- Dip cake pops in chocolate: Dip each cake pop completely into the melted white chocolate, gently tapping or swirling to remove any excess coating. This creates a smooth, even layer of chocolate around the cake pop.
- Set the cake pops: Place the dipped cake pops back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow them to sit at room temperature or refrigerate until the white chocolate coating has fully hardened and set before serving.
Notes
- For best results, use frosting with a creamy texture to help bind the cake crumbs effectively.
- You can substitute white chocolate with milk or dark chocolate chips if preferred.
- Decorate the cake pops further with additional sprinkles, edible glitter, or drizzle with contrasting chocolate colors before the coating sets.
- To speed up setting, place the cake pops in the refrigerator for about 10-15 minutes after dipping.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days.
