Description

Frito Pie is a delicious and comforting Tex-Mex dish featuring a hearty chili mixture served over crunchy Fritos corn chips and topped with gooey melted cheese. Perfect for a casual weeknight dinner or a crowd-pleasing party dish!


Ingredients

Main Chili:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can chili beans, undrained
  • 1 (10 oz) can diced tomatoes with green chiles
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Additional Ingredients:

  • 4 cups Fritos corn chips
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, diced red onions, sliced jalapeños, chopped green onions


Instructions

  1. Brown the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add Aromatics: Add the diced onion and garlic to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  3. Mix in Ingredients: Stir in the chili beans, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Simmer over low heat for 10–15 minutes.
  4. Serve: Place Fritos on plates or bowls, spoon chili over chips, and top with cheddar cheese. Add desired toppings.

Notes

  • For a larger group, assemble the Frito Pie in a baking dish and bake until bubbly.
