Ingredients
For the Caramelized Onions:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Meatballs:
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup shredded Gruyère or Swiss cheese
- Chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Caramelize the Onions: Heat olive oil in a skillet, add onions, butter, sugar, and salt. Cook until caramelized.
- Prepare the Meatballs: Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Form into meatballs.
- Cook the Meatballs: Sear meatballs, sprinkle with flour, add onions and beef broth. Simmer until cooked through.
- Finish: Top with cheese, cover to melt. Garnish with parsley.
