Description
Fire Crackers are a spicy, flavorful snack made by coating saltine crackers in a zesty blend of ranch seasoning, Italian herbs, red pepper flakes, and olive or avocado oil. After marinating for at least 8 hours to absorb the bold flavors, these crackers can be enjoyed straight from the bag or baked for extra crispiness. Perfect for parties or anytime you want a crunchy, addictive snack with a kick.
Ingredients
Seasoning Mixture
- 1 cup olive oil or avocado oil
- 2 ½ tablespoons ranch seasoning (or 1 packet)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 tablespoons red pepper flakes
Base
- 16 ounces saltine crackers
Instructions
- Combine Seasonings and Oil: Pour 1 cup of olive oil (or avocado oil), 2 ½ tablespoons ranch seasoning, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, and 2 tablespoons red pepper flakes into a gallon-sized ziplock bag. Seal the bag securely and mix the ingredients together by gently massaging the bag to evenly distribute all seasonings.
- Add Crackers: Add the 16 ounces of saltine crackers into the ziplock bag with the seasoning mixture. Seal the bag tightly to prevent any spills.
- Coat Crackers: Shake and flip the bag several times, flipping it back and forth continually, until every cracker is thoroughly coated with the seasoned oil mixture, ensuring an even spread of flavor.
- Marinate: Let the bag rest for a minimum of 8 hours. During this time, remember to flip the bag multiple times to prevent oil from settling and to ensure maximum absorption of flavors by the crackers.
- Serve or Bake (Optional): You can enjoy the crackers immediately after marinating by serving directly from the bag. For an extra crispy texture, spread the coated crackers in a single layer on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake at 250°F (120°C) for 10-15 minutes. Allow them to cool before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute olive oil with avocado oil for a different flavor profile and heart-healthy fats.
- For milder heat, reduce the amount of red pepper flakes.
- The baking step is optional but enhances crispiness and intensifies flavors.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container to keep crackers crunchy.
- Shake the bag occasionally during marinating for even seasoning.
- These crackers make a great party snack or a spicy nibble for game day.
