Description
This Fig, Blue Cheese & Crispy Prosciutto Crostini is a perfect appetizer that balances sweet, salty, and creamy flavors with a delightful crispy texture. Fresh figs add natural sweetness, complemented by tangy Gorgonzola and crunchy prosciutto shards atop crispy baguette slices drizzled with honey for a sophisticated bite.
Ingredients
Base
- 1 loaf Baguette (A crusty baguette is essential for holding the toppings.)
- 2 tablespoons Olive oil (Helps crispen the bread and adds flavor.)
Toppings
- 100 grams Principe Italian Prosciutto Crudo (Adds a salty flavor.)
- 100 grams Gorgonzola (Offers a creamy, tangy contrast.)
- 6 pieces Fresh figs (Fresh figs lend sweetness and texture.)
- 2 tablespoons Clear honey (Rounds out the dish with sweetness.)
Instructions
- Preheat and bake the baguette. Preheat your oven to 200ºC (gas mark 6). Bake the whole baguette according to package instructions until the crust is golden and crisp. Once done, allow it to cool completely before slicing into 15 pieces to ensure crispiness when toasted.
- Prepare the baking trays. Line two baking trays with baking parchment. Tear the prosciutto into shards and scatter evenly on one tray. Arrange the sliced baguette pieces on the second tray in a single layer and drizzle them lightly with olive oil to help achieve a golden crisp texture.
- Crisp the prosciutto and toast the bread. Place both trays in the oven and bake for 8-10 minutes until the baguette slices turn golden brown and the prosciutto shards become crispy. Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly to maintain crispness.
- Assemble the crostini toppings. Spread a generous layer of Gorgonzola over each toasted baguette slice for a creamy base. Next, add wedges of fresh figs on top to provide natural sweetness and texture, then scatter crispy prosciutto shards over the figs to introduce a salty crunch.
- Finish with honey drizzle and serve. Drizzle each crostini with clear honey to balance flavors with a touch of sweetness. Serve immediately to enjoy the perfect contrast of textures and flavors.
Notes
- Use very fresh figs for the best flavor and texture.
- Ensure the baguette is well cooled before slicing to avoid sogginess.
- You can substitute Gorgonzola with blue cheese or another creamy sharp cheese.
- Adjust the amount of honey to taste for desired sweetness.
- Serve crostini immediately after assembling to keep bread crispy.
