Description

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
  • Optional: candied orange peel and powdered sugar for garnish


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a cake pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: Whisk together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugars: Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy in a large bowl.
  4. Add wet ingredients: Beat in eggs, then add sour cream, orange juice, zest, vanilla, and milk. Mix well.
  5. Combine wet and dry: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture. Fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Bake: Pour batter into pan and bake for 35–40 minutes until done.
  7. Cool and garnish: Cool cake, dust with powdered sugar, and garnish with candied orange peel.

Notes

  • This cake can be made a day ahead and stored at room temperature.
  • For extra decadence, drizzle with melted chocolate or a chocolate-orange ganache.
