Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ tsp salt
Wet Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ cup orange juice
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
- Optional: candied orange peel and powdered sugar for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a cake pan.
- Mix dry ingredients: Whisk together flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Cream butter and sugars: Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy in a large bowl.
- Add wet ingredients: Beat in eggs, then add sour cream, orange juice, zest, vanilla, and milk. Mix well.
- Combine wet and dry: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Bake: Pour batter into pan and bake for 35–40 minutes until done.
- Cool and garnish: Cool cake, dust with powdered sugar, and garnish with candied orange peel.
