Description

These Easy Sugar Cookies are a classic treat that’s perfect for any occasion. With a simple recipe and delicious results, you’ll want to make these cookies over and over again. They’re soft, chewy, and full of sweet vanilla flavor.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Extra granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Add wet ingredients: Add the egg, vanilla extract, almond extract (if using), and milk, and mix until well combined.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until the dough forms.
  6. Shape and bake: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough, roll into balls, then roll in extra granulated sugar. Place on baking sheets, flatten slightly, and bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are golden.
  7. Cool and enjoy: Let cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For a festive touch, use colored sugar or sprinkles before baking.
  • These cookies freeze well and are great for decorating with royal icing.
