- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp matcha green tea powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until it foams and turns golden brown with a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let cool.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, matcha powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, mix the browned butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until combined.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and stir until smooth.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms. Chill the dough for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized amounts of dough and place them on the baking sheet, spaced 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Use high-quality matcha for the best flavor and color.
- Brown butter adds a deeper flavor, but can be replaced with regular melted butter if preferred.
- Dough can be made ahead and chilled overnight for a more developed flavor.
