Description

These Easy Halloween Cupcakes are a fun and festive treat perfect for celebrating the spooky season. Made with a simple chocolate cake mix, they’re topped with creamy frosting and decorated with Halloween-themed sprinkles and candies for a delightful, kid-friendly dessert.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box, usually eggs, oil, and water)
  • 12 paper cupcake liners

Frosting and Decorations

  • 1 container chocolate or vanilla frosting
  • Assorted Halloween sprinkles or candy eyes
  • Optional decorations: crushed Oreos, candy corn, black licorice, food coloring, or plastic Halloween toppers

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper cupcake liners to prepare for baking.
  2. Prepare Batter: Follow the instructions on the chocolate cake mix box, combining the mix with the required eggs, oil, and water. Stir until the batter is smooth and evenly mixed.
  3. Fill Liners: Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full to allow space for rising during baking.
  4. Bake Cupcakes: Place the muffin tin in the oven and bake for 18–22 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick in the center of a cupcake—if it comes out clean, they are ready.
  5. Cool: Remove cupcakes from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
  6. Frost Cupcakes: Once cooled, use a spatula or piping bag to spread or pipe your chosen frosting onto each cupcake.
  7. Decorate: Add Halloween-themed sprinkles, candy eyes, crushed Oreos, candy corn, licorice, or plastic toppers to create a festive look.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Your spooky cupcakes are ready to be served and enjoyed at any Halloween gathering or party.

Notes

  • For extra fun, add a drop of orange or green food coloring to the frosting to create spooky colors.
  • Try using different piping tips to create unique spooky designs on the cupcakes.
  • Hide a gummy worm or candy surprise inside the cupcake batter before baking for a fun twist.
  • Ensure cupcakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
