Description

These Easy Funnel Cake Fries are a delightful twist on the classic fair treat. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and dusted with powdered sugar, they are a fun and tasty dessert perfect for sharing.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until a smooth batter forms.
  2. Fry the Fries: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep pan over medium heat to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the batter to a piping bag or squeeze bottle with a wide tip. Carefully pipe long, thin strips of batter into the hot oil. Fry in batches, turning as needed, until golden brown and crisp, about 2–3 minutes per batch.
  3. Serve: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fries to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm with chocolate, caramel, or fruit dipping sauces if desired.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying, as it can lower the oil temperature and make the fries greasy.
  • For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon to the batter or the powdered sugar.
