These Easy Funnel Cake Fries are a delightful twist on the classic fair treat. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and dusted with powdered sugar, they are a fun and tasty dessert perfect for sharing.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- vegetable oil for frying
- powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Prepare the Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat the milk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until a smooth batter forms.
- Fry the Fries: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep pan over medium heat to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the batter to a piping bag or squeeze bottle with a wide tip. Carefully pipe long, thin strips of batter into the hot oil. Fry in batches, turning as needed, until golden brown and crisp, about 2–3 minutes per batch.
- Serve: Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fries to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm with chocolate, caramel, or fruit dipping sauces if desired.
Notes
- Don’t overcrowd the pan when frying, as it can lower the oil temperature and make the fries greasy.
- For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon to the batter or the powdered sugar.
