Description

These Easy Christmas Cupcakes are festive vanilla-flavored treats perfect for holiday celebrations. Moist cupcakes are topped with vibrant green buttercream frosting and decorated with candy canes, sprinkles, and edible snowflakes for a merry and bright presentation.

Ingredients

Cupcake Ingredients

  • 1 box vanilla cake mix (or homemade vanilla cake recipe)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup water (or as directed on the mix)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Buttercream Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 tbsp milk (adjust as needed for consistency)
  • Green gel food coloring

Decorations

  • Mini candy canes
  • Red and green sprinkles
  • Edible snowflake decorations or fondant snowflakes
  • Powdered sugar (for a snowy effect)
  • Mini gingerbread cookies (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cupcakes: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with festive cupcake liners to prepare for baking.
  2. Mix Cake Batter: In a large bowl, combine the vanilla cake mix, vegetable oil, eggs, water, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and fully incorporated.
  3. Fill Liners: Spoon the batter into the lined muffin tin, filling each cup about two-thirds full to allow room for rising.
  4. Bake the Cupcakes: Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Then, remove from oven and let them cool completely.
  5. Make the Buttercream Frosting: Beat the softened butter in a mixing bowl until creamy and smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar while continuing to beat.
  6. Flavor and Adjust Frosting: Mix in the vanilla extract and milk, beating the frosting until it becomes fluffy. Adjust the milk quantity as needed to reach a pipeable consistency.
  7. Add Color: Stir in green gel food coloring until the frosting is a vibrant, even green shade.
  8. Frost and Decorate: Using a piping bag fitted with a star tip, frost the cooled cupcakes with the green buttercream. Decorate with mini candy canes, red and green sprinkles, edible snowflake decorations, and optionally, mini gingerbread cookies. For a snowy finish, lightly dust the cupcakes with powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Ensure cupcakes are completely cool before frosting to prevent melting.
  • You can substitute the green gel food coloring with any preferred color for different festive effects.
  • Adjust milk in frosting gradually to avoid a runny consistency.
  • Use festive liners and decorations to enhance the Christmas theme.
  • Store frosted cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
