Description

These Easy Chicken Patties are a delicious Pakistani bakery-style snack made with puff pastry and a flavorful chicken filling. Perfect for tea time or as an appetizer, these patties are golden brown, flaky, and bursting with savory spices.

Ingredients

Puff Pastry:

  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed

Chicken Filling:

  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 egg, beaten for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the filling: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft. Stir in flour, then gradually whisk in milk to form a thick sauce. Season with salt, pepper, chili flakes, cumin, garam masala, and turmeric. Add chicken and cilantro, then cook until thickened.
  3. Prepare the pastry: Roll out puff pastry sheets and cut into desired shapes. Place chicken filling on one piece, cover with another, and seal edges with a fork.
  4. Bake: Brush patties with egg wash and bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown and puffed. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Best served fresh, but can be reheated in the oven or air fryer.
  • Chicken filling can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 2 days.
  • For a more intense flavor, use chicken stock in the filling instead of milk.
