Description

This Easy & Hearty Cabbage and Ground Beef Skillet is a delicious one-pan meal that is perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner. Tender cabbage cooked with seasoned ground beef and tomatoes creates a flavorful dish that is both comforting and nutritious.

Ingredients

Ground Beef:

  • 1 lb ground beef

Vegetables:

  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped (about 6 cups)

Tomato Base:

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste

Seasonings:

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Others:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil (if needed)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  2. Saute Onion and Garlic: Add the diced onion and garlic, and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add Cabbage: Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for 5–6 minutes, stirring frequently, until it begins to wilt.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Add the diced tomatoes with juice, tomato paste, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  5. Simmer: Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and let simmer for 10–12 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have melded.
  6. Final Touches: Uncover and cook another 2–3 minutes if needed to reduce any excess liquid. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • You can swap in ground turkey or sausage.
  • Serve over rice or mashed potatoes for a more filling meal.
